Safeguarding & Club Standards
Welcome to a New Season at Saints Basketball Club
At Saints Basketball Club, we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive and positive environment where every player can enjoy basketball, build confidence, develop their skills and feel part of our basketball community.
The welfare of our young people is at the heart of everything we do.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
Players, parents, spectators, coaches, officials and volunteers all have an important role in creating an environment where young people feel safe, respected and supported.
Parents & Spectators
Support positively
Celebrate effort, teamwork, improvement and fair play. Please never criticise or negatively challenge a player, coach or official for making a mistake.
Allow coaches to coach
Positive encouragement from the sidelines is welcomed. Tactical instructions and coaching decisions should be left to the coaching team so players receive clear and consistent guidance.
Respect appropriate boundaries
Questions, concerns or feedback should be raised with the relevant coach or Club Welfare Officer at an appropriate time. Please avoid approaching coaches with concerns during or immediately after games.
Players
Play with respect
Treat teammates, opponents, coaches, officials and volunteers with fairness and respect, both on and off the court.
Look out for one another
We want every player to feel that they belong at Saints. Bullying, intimidation, teasing, discrimination or deliberate exclusion will not be tolerated.
Speak up
If something does not feel right, you feel uncomfortable or you are worried about yourself or somebody else, please speak to an adult you trust or contact our Club Welfare Officer.
You will be listened to and your concerns will be taken seriously.
Online Safety & Communication
The same standards of behaviour and safeguarding apply online as they do in person.
Club and team group chats involving junior players are monitored by appropriate vetted adults, club representatives and/or the Club Welfare Officer.
Private one-to-one messaging between coaches or club staff and individual players under the age of 18 is not permitted.
We ask players, parents and staff to use social media and digital communication responsibly and to report any communication or behaviour that causes concern.
Safeguarding Concerns
If you have a welfare question, are concerned about the wellbeing of a player, or need to report a safeguarding matter, please contact our Club Welfare Officer as soon as possible.
